Seminar Information

The Modern Institute for Charitable Giving (ModernICG) has deep roots in the fundraising world. It all started back in 1991 when two legends in the field—Jerry Panas and Bill Sturtevant—founded the Institute for Charitable Giving (ICG). Their mission? To help fundraisers grow, thrive, and elevate the impact of philanthropy through world-class training and peer learning.
Over the past three decades, more than 12,000 fundraising professionals from over 9,000 organizations—big and small—have experienced the power of ICG’s learning model. From grassroots nonprofits like Inner City Youth Alive and Mosaic Community Health to global forces like the American Heart Association and The Salvation Army, the institute has served as a trusted guide in fundraising excellence.
When Jerry passed in 2018, his wife and longtime partner in this work, Felicity Panas, lovingly carried the mission forward. Then in 2025, a new chapter began. Fundraising Transformed—a global fundraising training and consulting firm founded by Tammy Zonker—acquired the institute and relaunched it as the Modern Institute for Charitable Giving (ModernICG). Tammy, who had already served as Dean, brought with her a vision to build on the institute’s extraordinary legacy while reimagining what's possible for the future of fundraising.
At ModernICG, we’re passionate about helping fundraisers like you think boldly, work smarter, and aim higher—especially when it comes to major gifts. Our immersive seminars blend cutting-edge strategy, interactive learning, and real-world insight, all while connecting you with a diverse network of peers, experts, and thought leaders in the field.
And yes—our programs are CFRE-accredited, so you’ll earn credits while you grow your skills and your impact.
If you're ready to ignite your imagination and take your fundraising to new heights, we’d love to welcome you into the ModernICG community.
Let me know if you’d like a shorter version or a version tailored to a specific audience!

Great question! The name “ModernICG” reflects exactly what we’re all about—bringing a fresh, forward-thinking approach to fundraising education while honoring the legacy of the original Institute for Charitable Giving.
When we shifted from traditional in-person seminars to fully virtual experiences, it wasn’t just about convenience. It was about creating greater access, eliminating travel barriers, and meeting fundraisers where they are—no matter where they live or work.
But “modern” goes far beyond format.
Today’s donor landscape is evolving fast, and so are we. Our enhanced curriculum is packed with cutting-edge strategies and time-tested best practices designed specifically for major gifts fundraising. We dive deep into things like:
Modern Moves Management
Crafting compelling case statements and gift invitations
Engaging younger donors and diversifying funding sources
Responsible use of predictive and generative AI
Ethical fundraising and donor stewardship
And so much more
We’ve also expanded our faculty to include top thought leaders, industry experts, and wealth advisors who bring real-world insights into every session. Our seminars are interactive, immersive, and CFRE-accredited—blending practical tools with big-picture thinking.
Plus, with sessions like “The Art of the Ask” and “Modern Planned Giving,” you’ll walk away with strategies you can immediately put to use.
So when we say “modern,” we mean education that’s relevant, dynamic, and built for the challenges (and opportunities!) of fundraising today—and tomorrow.
-
We know you’re investing time, energy, and resources into this seminar—and we want to make sure you get the most out of it.
Each session of the ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar is thoughtfully designed to build on the one before, creating a rich, connected learning experience. That’s why full participation really matters.
To receive your certificate of completion (and earn those valuable CFRE education points), here’s what you need to know:
Plan to attend all sessions in full. That means blocking off your calendar, avoiding conflicting meetings, and being present from start to finish each day.
Daily attendance is recorded, and staying through the end of each session is required to receive your certificate.
Why so thorough? Because credentials and certificates aren’t just nice to have—they’re a powerful way to show your commitment to professional growth. Employers notice. Whether you’re aiming for a promotion, exploring a new opportunity, or simply leveling up your skills, completing this seminar sends a clear message: you’re serious about your craft.
So show up fully. Engage deeply. And walk away with not just new strategies, but meaningful recognition of your dedication to the field.
-
Absolutely—and we highly encourage it!
One of the best parts of the ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar is the chance to connect with fellow fundraisers who really get what you do. Even though we’re virtual, we’ve built in plenty of ways to meet, share, and grow your network.
During the Seminar:
Hop on early for our pre-seminar networking time. It’s a great way to say hello, meet other participants, and start building connections before we dive in.
Join the live chat during breaks and our virtual evening reception. Swap stories, ask questions, and share insights with fundraisers from all over the world.
After the Seminar:
Your connections don’t stop when the seminar ends. Once you complete the program, you’ll be invited to join The Apex Community—our exclusive online space for ModernICG alumni.
As an Apexer, you’ll gain free lifetime access to a global network of peers who are just as passionate about major gift fundraising as you are. Inside the community, you can:
Stay in touch with fellow alumni
Share best practices and lessons learned
Get fresh ideas and advice
Keep growing—together
Everyone in the Apex Community has completed the same CFRE-certified seminar, so you’re joining a group with shared values, experience, and drive.
Bottom line: this is more than a seminar—it’s your gateway to a strong, supportive network of fundraising professionals who are in it for the long haul.
-
We hear you—your schedule is packed, and time is always in short supply. That’s exactly why we’ve designed the ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar to be just three focused, high-impact days.
Unlike programs that stretch on for weeks or require travel and time away from your work, this virtual seminar is streamlined to give you maximum value without overwhelming your calendar. It’s all about practical, actionable learning you can immediately apply—delivered right to you, wherever you are.
You’ll walk away with tools, strategies, and insights that save time in the long run—and help you raise more with less stress.
-
Totally fair question—and honestly, we’ve sat through our share of dry, one-way webinars too. That’s exactly why we created something different.
The ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar is designed to be interactive, engaging, and actually fun. You’ll join live sessions filled with real conversations, small-group breakouts, and personalized coaching—not just passive screen time. You’ll have chances to ask questions, get feedback, and connect with peers who really get what you’re navigating.
It’s virtual, yes—but it feels real, human, and energizing. Promise.
-
Great question—and one we’ve heard a lot over the years.
The truth is, while we loved gathering in person, many participants shared how tough it could be to attend—between travel costs, hotel stays, and time away from family or the office, it just wasn’t always feasible.
So, we listened.
By going fully virtual, we’ve made it easier for more fundraisers and nonprofit leaders to join us—no flights, no packing, no logistics to juggle. Just high-quality, interactive training you can access from wherever you are.
We’re excited to keep making professional development more accessible, so mission-driven folks like you can keep growing your skills and making a bigger impact—without missing a beat at home or at work.
-
We get this question a lot—and we totally understand why! But our seminars are intentionally designed to be live, interactive experiences, and here’s why that matters:
We believe the magic happens in the moment—through real-time conversations, Q&A with experts, and meaningful peer-to-peer connection. It’s not just about watching slides—it’s about being part of something dynamic, engaging, and energizing.
So no, we don’t offer on-demand recordings, but here’s what you do get:
Live access to top industry experts
Real-time Q&A and coaching
Interactive exercises and small group discussions
Dedicated networking time to connect with other fundraisers
To get the most out of it, we recommend:
Blocking off your calendar for the full seminar (11 AM–5 PM ET)
Minimizing distractions so you can stay fully engaged
Taking advantage of the chance to learn, ask, and connect in real time
And don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with helpful follow-up materials after the seminar, including key takeaways and practical tools you’ll access inside the Apex community.
Can’t make this round? No problem—check out our upcoming dates, and consider joining with a teammate to keep the learning going internally.
We're here to make sure you walk away feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to put what you’ve learned into action!
-
In a word? Relevance.
The ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar is built for today’s donor landscape—not the one from ten or even five years ago. We blend classic, proven principles with fresh, forward-thinking strategies that reflect how philanthropy is evolving right now.
Whether you’re growing an established major gifts program or just starting to build your pipeline, you’ll walk away with insights that stretch your thinking and sharpen your approach. It’s practical, it’s timely, and it’s designed to help you thrive in a fast-changing world.

We totally get it—on the surface, a virtual seminar might not seem like it should come with a premium price tag. But the ModernICG Major Gifts Seminar isn’t your typical online event. It’s a deep, hands-on learning experience designed to deliver a real return on your investment.
You’re not just signing up for a few Zoom sessions—you’re gaining access to expert-led training, personalized coaching, and actionable strategies you can start using right away. Just one strong donor relationship cultivated using what you learn here could easily pay for the cost of registration—and then some.
Think of it as investing in your own growth and your organization’s future impact. We’re here to help you fundraise smarter, not harder.
-
We completely get it—budgets can be tight, especially in the nonprofit world where every dollar matters. But we truly believe this seminar is more than a cost—it’s an investment in your organization’s long-term fundraising success.
The strategies, tools, and confidence you’ll gain can help you secure larger gifts, deepen donor relationships, and create more sustainable revenue for your mission. It’s the kind of training that pays off well beyond the seminar.
To help make it more accessible, we offer a couple of great ways to save:
Register early and you’ll save $100 per person
Bring a team of five or more and save an additional $100 per person
Those savings can add up quickly—and the impact? That can last for years.
